You Got Schooled
College Scholarship 3-on-3 Girls Basketball Tournament
The purpose of You Got Schooled is to provide a safe and positive environment for high school girls, while encouraging higher education by providing an alternative means to earn college scholarship funds.
The 2009 You Got Schooled tournament will be hosted at St. Peter’s Park on Lyons Avenue in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday, August 29th beginning at 10:00 am. In the event of rain or inclement weather, the tournament will be held indoors at Central High School (246 18th Ave, Newark, NJ).
You Got Schooled is open to high school girls entering grades 9 through 12, including non-scholarship 2009 graduated seniors registered and accepted into college.
The first 32 teams from across the country to submit the completed registration form along with the $50 commitment fee will be admitted into the tournament.
At our 1st Annual tournament (formally Scholars for Ballers) in August of 2008, United Initiatives awarded over $14,000 in college scholarship funds to 22 individuals.
You Got Schooled also hosts numerous spectator activities and community services for the public (peace mosaics, face painting, health information, give-a-ways, etc.).
Head to Head competitions for participates will take place during the tournament as a chance to earn additional college scholarship funds, including, a 3-Point Shoot Out, 7-Foot Dunking Contest, and a Beat the Mayor Contest.
Since part of the vision of You Got Schooled is to build strong character and encourage volunteerism, additional scholarships will be awarded to individuals demonstrating Sportsmanship and a personal commitment to Community Service and Humanitarian Activities (short essays will be submitted on site).
An Awards Reception is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 30th at Central High School (246 18th Avenue, Newark, NJ) to honor all participants, volunteers, and sponsors. At the reception, challenge winners, top teams, and individuals demonstrating exceptional ability, community service, and sportsmanship will be awarded tuition, book, and general aid college funds.
